Report Links Malik Hooker to the Dallas Cowboys

It has been said for a while that the Dallas Cowboys want to strengthen the safety position. And if a recent report is to be believed, they will go for another NFL free agent to do this.

The rumour mill was working so hard on this potential deal that even the player said to be the Cowboys’ target, Malik Hooker has been asked to comment on the matter.

So what did Hooker say when pressed on whether he will join the Dallas-based franchise? Well, not much, but he did tweet a cryptic “I did hear about this.”

Now that might mean that Hooker has been involved in some form of talks with the Cowboys. On the other hand, it might just mean that the free agent has heard about the rumour and that everyone else is just guessing.

Putting Their Faith in Damontae Kazee

People who have their finger on the pulse, though, are pretty sure that the Cowboys have no intention of signing Malik HookerThese well-informed sources said that Hooker was not in the Cowboys’ plans because Damontae Kazee was seen as a “pivotal move” at the safety position for the franchise.

The initial report linking Hooker to the Cowboys read that the player was considering offers from the Cowboys, as well as the Miami Dolphins.

Unfortunately for Hooker, that doesn’t seem to be the case. The same Cowboys’ source has said that the Dallas organization was happy to continue with Kazee, especially after the player passed his post-Achilles medical tests.

Hooker has been recovering from an Achilles injury himself and also underwent medicals with the Cowboys in March this year, together with Kazee. After his medicals, Hooker tweeted that the Dallas visit “went great” and that he was always grateful for the opportunities he got. However, he also added that he was in control of some things but that he couldn’t control everything, possibly referring to a potential Cowboys deal.

It Won’t Happen

Right now, all things point to the Cowboys not singing the 15th overall Colts pick in the 2017 NFL draft, with the source adding that there was no new contact between the Cowboys and Hooker’s agent

Malik Hooker, who was quite good during his Indianapolis spell, can be a decent addition to any team when healthy. However, according to these well-informed sources, he has not received and won’t receive a Cowboys contract offer.
